DJ Rob Hill

Rob Hill was born Robert Hill on June 22 1982 in Brooklyn NY to a Dominican mother and a Honduran father. Growing up he remembers Saturday’s as being house cleaning day and even though he hated chores his reward was being able to play music as loud as he wanted. It was a neighbor who first realized Rob’s talent for playing good music as he could hear the music being played in Rob’s apartment and one day came over and requested for Rob to record him a cassette. This would be Rob’s first “mixtape” and the price of this “mixtape” a measly 69 cents as that’s what the blank cassette tape cost at the time.
At the age of 11 his parent’s would split and to help around the house Rob would pack bags at the local supermarket where he would also serve as the music programmer for music played in the supermarket during working hours. Fast forward to high school, Rob attended Brooklyn Technical High School in NYC where he founded the Dominican Culture Club and on every last thursday of the month Rob would bring in c.d.’s and basically have a party. At this time Rob Hill was known under the moniker DJ Quisqueya, it would be the result’s of these parties where Rob would gain knowledge on promoting events, as well as earn his first chance to play for pay. Rob would be hired to dj at Sweet 16″s, Baby Showers, Weddings, and Fund Raiser’s. Rob graduated high school and at the time the Dominican Culture Club parties were the hottest events to be at.
Rob went on to Baruch College where he had a short stint as a radio dj on WBMB the Baruch College official radio station. He also made a few guest appearances at parties held by the organizations at Baruch College such as ASEDOM and PRIDE (PUERTO RICANS FOR INVOLVEMENT, DEVELOPMENT, AND ENRICHMENT). Around this time Rob’s attention in regards to music would start shifting. He met Orlando Robles known as Young Sosa an up and coming rapper. Rob would call it quits as DJ Quisqueya and go on to become part owner of Block Family Ent.
In 2007 Rob would start officially introducing himself as Rob Hill. When asked why the emphasis on Rob Hill, he responded “the world is all about brands and I want to promote myself as a brand. When you see a check on the side of a pair of sneakers you know right away Nike, when you see the word Rob Hill and Block Family Ent, I want you to associate it with great music and know that the product is guaranteed”.
In 2008, Rob made a decision to return to the dj scene as Dj Rob Hill. When asked about his return he simply stated “there’s a void right now in breaking new artists and I feel I can fill that void”. With his international debut as one of the official DJ’s at the 12th Annual Merengue Festival in Montreal Canada and venues such as Da Zha Vu Lounge, The Gallery Lounge, Boriquen Nightclub, Diamante Nightclub, Astromundo Nightclub, Mundo Maya Nightclub, Angel’s Lounge all in NYC, Tribeca Nightclub in New Jersey, Club Firestone in Orlando, The Cave Lounge in Toronto, and Copacabana in Montreal already under his belt Rob Hill is establishing himself as one of the premier up and coming DJ’s in NYC.
